Jandia Attractions Fuerteventura Canary Islands
With three thousand hours of sunshine a year, Fuerteventura is the closest Canary Island to the African coast with only 100km separating the 'Punta de la Entallada' from Cape Juby in Morroco and is the second largest (after Tenerife) of all the islands. The weather conditions here are very similar to Florida and Mexico, which are on the same latitude, which make this the ideal holiday location! There is nowhere else in the Canaries with so many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches, (more than one hundred and fifty. Even though most of the land consists of stone and rock, these are some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe. Fuerteventura is generally regarded as the oldest of all the Canaries and its strange contours come from various volcanic episodes. The last eruption occurred around 7,000 years ago so you're pretty safe. Water sports are very popular here.
Every year hundreds of surfers, windsurfers and divers descend on Fuerte, and during July the island is host to the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento in the south. There are many new attractions which invite tourists to discover different aspects of the Island's landscape and culture such as the Betancuria Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, and Tefia Craft Village to name but a few. Its miles and miles of broad sandy beaches and golden yellow sand dunes make Fuerteventura the ideal holiday resort for everyone.
Fuerteventura appeals to a wide variety of people for many reasons: It has fantastic all-year-round weather, averaging 24 degrees by day and 18 degrees by night, and boasts one of the healthiest climates in the world. In Fuerteventura you can enjoy miles of spectacular, deserted white sandy beaches lapped by a crystal clear turquoise sea. You can still find unspoilt fishing villages, remote mountain-top hamlets steeped in history and tradition, and a relatively slow pace of life that is the envy of most Europeans. It’s not all peace and tranquillity, however. Fuerteventura is one of the top water sports venues in the world and home to a leg of the World Windsurf, Kite-board and Deep Sea Fishing championships. It’s also one of the best islands for surfing in the Canarian archipelago and a premier diving venue.
Development on the island has been sympathetic and you can experience a quality of life and sense of freedom on the Canary Islands best kept secret like no other. People from all walks of life and nationalities are attracted to Fuerteventura. Some have moved here for health reasons because they have found the climate gives them a better quality of life. Others have found new business opportunities away from their hectic lifestyles in Europe; want a second holiday home in the sun with guaranteed good weather all year long; or simply choose to live here and enjoy the magic and the therapeutic assets that the island holds.
